Douyin turns its product-card fee waiver into a rebate

Douyin cross-border stores now pay the full fee on product-card orders and get most of it back a month later. What that costs in cash through Double 11.

In a cross-border seller’s office in the Ningbo bonded zone, a woman reads a Douyin store payout page on a laptop while a colleague holds up a phone showing skincare product cards

From October, Douyin’s product-card fee rebate replaces the old waiver. A Douyin Global Purchase store pays the full category fee when a product-card order settles, and Douyin returns most of it on the 20th of the month after the order was paid. A skincare store now fronts 5% of those sales instead of 1%, right through Double 11.

Douyin Global Purchase (抖音全球购) is the cross-border store a foreign brand opens on Douyin from an overseas company, usually with a Douyin Partner running it. A product-card order starts from a product tile on the Douyin Mall page inside the app. Sales made in a livestream, a short video, or a creator’s shop window don’t count.

Douyin posted the updated 2026 product-card policy on October 1. We read it on October 5.

Product-card orders now earn a rebate after settlement, paid on the 20th of the month after payment. For cross-border goods Douyin keeps 1% of the order under the first rebate type, or 90% of its fee under the second. Domestic goods keep a 0.6% floor. Until September, the same benefit came straight off the fee at settlement. The policy page sets the handover itself. Tasks finished in September keep the old waiver on orders that settle in October; tasks finished in October earn rebates.

What the Douyin product-card fee rebate costs in cash

Start with the rate.

Here’s a skincare store at three sales levels. Which rebate type it gets depends on the monthly tasks it completes, and the store’s back end shows which one applies.

Product-card sales in a month (RMB) Fee taken at settlement, 5% Douyin keeps, type one Rebate on the 20th, type one Rebate on the 20th, type two
100,000 5,000 1,000 4,000 500
300,000 15,000 3,000 12,000 1,500
1,000,000 50,000 10,000 40,000 5,000

Over a full year, a store that clears its tasks every month ends up paying the same. It just pays sooner and gets the money back later.

So the full fee comes out of the payout a few days after the buyer confirms receipt, and the rebate turns up on the 20th of the next month. Most months the gap is modest. Double 11 is where it bites.

By our arithmetic, a skincare store that sells RMB 1 million through product cards between November 1 and 11 pays RMB 50,000 in fees as those orders settle, most of them in November. It waits until December 20 for RMB 40,000 of that. Under the old waiver it would have paid RMB 10,000 and been done.

Which budget line moves

The platform fee line in the monthly cash plan. Book product-card fees at the full category rate in the month the orders settle, and the rebate as income on the 20th of the month after. Miss a month’s tasks and that month’s orders stay at the full rate, as they always did.

Refunds reach further back now.

A refund on an order already rebated is deducted from later rebates, or from the store’s payouts or deposit. Non-RMB deductions use the exchange rate on the day. A store paid out in a foreign currency can see that clawback land at a different rate from the one it was rebated at. On most orders that’s small money, though it adds up in a category where returns run high.

What to do, and by when

By October 31, check in the store’s back end that it’s registered for the 2026 policy (stores registered in 2025 roll over on their own) and that October’s tasks are done. Those tasks decide whether October’s product-card orders earn a rebate on November 20.

Before November 20, top up the deposit and confirm the receiving bank account. If Douyin can’t pay a rebate for a reason on the store’s side, it holds the money only until the last day of the following month. After that, it’s gone.

Plan November’s cash with product-card fees at the full rate and the Double 11 rebate landing on December 20.

If a Douyin Partner runs the store, ask for product-card rebates as their own line on the monthly statement, read from the back end’s rebate management page (返佣管理). The rebate lands in the store’s receiving account, so it goes to whoever holds that account.

Our Douyin cost calculator already charges the full category rate on every order, which is now what a store pays at settlement (TheChinaPath calculator data, October 2026). Put your own sales level through it before you sign off the November budget.
